Dr. Fernandez received his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe Medical School in Puerto Rico in 1990. He completed his Family Practice Residency at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville, Florida in 1994. He was in private practice for 2 years in Orlando, Florida. Subsequently, he was employed by the Indian Health Service (Department of Human Health) as the Clinical Director at the Mescalero Indian Hospital in Mescalero, New Mexico from 1997-1999. He has practiced in North Carolina since 1999 and joined New Hope Family Practice in 2011.
He enjoys all facets of family medicine and his areas of interest include diabetes, hypertension, sports medicine, adolescent and Hispanic health. Dr. Fernandez is married to Dr. Connie Brooks-Fernandez and has two adult daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, water activities, attending church and international missions. He volunteers regularly with Village Christian Academy and their senior mission trip.
