Joel D. Meshulam, MD

Joel D. Meshulam, MD has practiced internal and geriatric medicine in Baltimore for the over 25 years.

Dr. Meshulam completed his undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in 1982 and went directly to medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. Upon graduating with his MD degree in June of 1986, he started his residency at North Shore University Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. After 3 years he began in the private practice of medicine.

For three and a half years, Dr. Meshulam was an employed physician in a group practice. Although he enjoyed the experience, he decided he would be happier in a solo practice setting. He has been his own boss since 1993 and has never looked back.

Dr. Meshulam’s office is located at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore City. He is actively engaged in the practice of internal medicine, and continues to care for his own patients when they are admitted to the hospital. He strongly feels that he should be present when his patients are at their sickest and has never felt comfortable turning their care over to a hospitalist. He is also the medical director of Mercy’s Transitional Care Unit, and has served in that capacity since it opened more than 10 years ago.

In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Meshulam is active as a Health Coach with the Take Shape for Life program, and has been so for 2.5 years. Take Shape for Life focuses on achieving optimal health as well as a long and healthy life. The program involves personal coaching in the habits of health, as well as a method for reaching one’s healthy weight. When his patients are successful, they feel increased energy and fitness, and frequently require fewer medications.

Dr. Meshulam cherishes his wife, Jenny, who helps him to stay focused on the important things in life, and his children Avi and Hannah, who never miss a chance to keep him humble and are the pride and joy of his life.

A lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan, he was happy to see professional football return to Baltimore, and always looks forward to the fall, especially now that the Orioles are relevant and the Ravens are riding high. Dr. Meshulam is an avid runner, loves to exercise when he has the time, and enjoys music of all kinds, especially when listened to live and in person.
