Food For Thought (Part Two): Concierge Medicine’s Heart Healthy Track to Keep off Statins

Did you know that eating Rhubarb, freeze-dried strawberries, frozen vegan banana “ice cream”, Nutritional Yeast (as a Parmesan cheese replacement) and Escarole are five cancer fighting and heart bolstering super foods you should investigate and add to your diet?

We have already introduced you to two 70+ year old women who are living proof of dietary changes making a huge quality of life impact: Click here to see.

More evidence is in the news this week, with the encouraging story of former President Bill Clinton, who has gone completely vegan.

President Clinton was a notorious goodie hound. He enjoyed cheeseburgers, fries and all kinds of southern fried cooking that he grew up with in Arkansas. But his heart attack and subsequent heart problems have led him to the vegan side, and he spoke with CNN about his transformation. The ex President looks 10 years younger too.

The Western world is plagued with cancer, diabetes and heart disease, and concierge physicians in the know about the cause and effect of our American diet can help families stay well and out of hospitals, and off expensive prescription medicines.

As scientists and doctors study cancer and heart disease, the No. 1 killer in the Western world, the Cleveland Clinic physicians have prescribed diets modeled on the Papua New Guinea highlanders, rural Chinese, central Africans and the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico, according to CNN.

The new diet that promises to keep people off surgery tables and healthier is one that has been around since the beginning of time. Vegan, or plant based diets, are the ticket for longevity and good health.

Americans who trade their typical diet and switch to no meat, no eggs, no dairy, no added oils have dramatic weight loss and the fat that is inside of them, the vascular plaques and cholestrol that build inside, disspiates without drugs stents or surgery

CNN has examined the book, “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease — The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure,” written by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr.

He is also a focus of the new documentary “Forks Over Knives.”

Along with a vegetable-based diet, regular physical activity is part of the equation for health. Add to that regular well checkups with your SignatureMD concierge physician to monitor your cholesterol, blood pressure and weight.

Despite the Vegan health benefits, the lobbyists of the meat, dairy and egg industries defend the benefits of their protein-rich foods, all of which remain on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate dietary guidelines for healthy eating.

Concierge medicine is well informed about the pros and cons of certain diets. Your SignatureMD physician can counsel you on how to incorporate a vegetarian diet based on whole foods. Your whole body approach to health is part of the benefits of concierge medicine in general, designed to keep people well and out of the hospital by helping to manage and guide the lifestyles of their patients.

One film to consider watching this summer is “Forks Over Knives,” a documentary where we meet Lee Fulkerson, who undertakes a similar journey taken by Morgan Spurlock in “Supersize Me.” Instead of eating only at McDonald’s for 30 days, Lee eats a plant-based whole food diet for six months, gets off all of his cholesterol and blood pressure medications, drops a lot of weight, sleeps better and has more energy.

His film follows three other sick people: one with breast cancer, one given less than a year to live because of heart problems, one with lethally high cholesterol. All are well again after the vegetarian diet.

The movie opens with a warning that no one should take such steps without consulting a physician. Your SignatureMD doctor is well equipped to keep your family out of harm’s way, and educate about the careless choices in diet that can sabotage your health.
